It may appear that Michael Edwards flirts with absurdity as encountered through some of his artistic decisions. Whether he is constructing garden (hydroponics) systems in order to carry out daunting tasks of capturing and amplifying micro sounds of growing plant roots, broadcasting sounds of cockroaches scurrying across metal drum cymbals or manipulating digital image pixels that result in real-time color field paintings, his agenda when scrutinized is becoming more invested in the relationship between nature and culture.
That is a (curious) preoccupation with that which exists and functions independently of humans intermingled with that which is the result of human production, reproduction and social transmission – he aligns his creative compass to add to the discourse. Granted he is fully aware that the demarcation between the two is not hard and fixed but is susceptible to change depending on cultural grouping and geographical place.
Edwards received a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design a Masters of Science in Art and Technology from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, Sweden. He has exhibited at numerous venues in the US, Europe and The Bahamas. Selected venues include The Boston Center for the Arts - Mills Gallery, Boston; Franklin Pierce College Gallery, New Hampshire; Cinque Gallery, New York; FYR arte contemporanea, Italy; Konsthallen Trollhättan, Sweden; Nassauischer Kunstverein, Germany; Inaugural National Exhibition, The National Gallery of The Bahamas.
