The project uses an ‘r-selected’ species or pests within a creative audible space in a way that generates ambient sounds. Sensitive contact microphones facilitate real-time sound capture of cockroaches crawling frantically over metal discs (drum cymbals).
Questions arise as to whether or not there exists emergent randomness or deterministic components inherent in natural systems. These persistent and adaptable animals are held in disdain by society and efforts to keep them out of our spaces are futile.
